Who we support›Intellectual disability
Support for adults with intellectual disability.
For adults with intellectual disability, including Down syndrome, and for the families who have often been their main support for a long time. We talk to you, not about you.
What we understand about it
Intellectual disability affects how a person learns, understands and works things out. They want what anyone wants: a home, people, something to do, a say in their own life.
Many adults with intellectual disability have spent years being talked about instead of talked to. We talk to you, in plain words, with time, and with the people you choose in the room.
Decisions stay yours. Where you want help making them, we help. Where a guardian or nominee is involved, we work with them and with you.

How we support
Support coordination
A plan you understand, supports you chose, and someone who explains what's happening at every step, including when a parent or carer is stepping back.
Support work
Everyday skills learned by doing: help at home, getting out and about, work or study.
The things around it
Guardianship, Centrelink, housing, health appointments where you weren't listened to, and court or police matters where nobody slowed down to explain.

Situations
Situations we know well
Getting started
How it starts
You don't need a formal diagnosis to talk to us, or to have everything sorted.
Call us
Call us, or ask a parent or support coordinator to call for you.
We meet you
We meet wherever you're comfortable.
We go through your plan
We go through your plan together in plain words if you have one, and agree on the first few things to change.
Questions
Things people ask us
Can my family be involved?
As much as you want. We'll ask who you want in the room and what you want them to know.
Will you explain things so I understand?
Yes. Plain words, one thing at a time, written down in a way that works for you. Ask us to say it again as many times as you like.
What if I want to live on my own?
Then that's what we work toward. Skills first, the right place second, support that steps back as you need it less.
What if my parent can't look after me anymore?
Families often call us about exactly this. We plan for it before it happens, with everyone involved.
