What we understand about it

Autism is a different way of experiencing the world: sensory, social, and in how routine, change and communication work. It's lifelong, and not something to fix.

Most of the difficulty autistic adults describe to us comes from environments and systems built for someone else: noise, crowds, forms, phone calls, unexpected changes, people who won't say what they mean.

So we work on the environment: predictable workers, clear communication in the form you prefer, notice before changes, and time to process.

Autism

How we support

Support coordination

Dealing with the NDIS, your GP and every other service so you don't have to make the phone calls, and helping the plan fund what helps, including sensory and communication supports.

Support work

The same worker wherever we can, at the same time, in the same way. Help at home, getting places, and building a week you can keep up.

The things around it

Late diagnosis, mental health alongside autism, getting to work or study, housing, and the services that don't recognise a shutdown or a meltdown for what it is.

Questions

Things people ask us

Can I contact you by email instead of phone?

Yes. Email info@nimacare.com.au and tell us how you prefer to communicate. If you'd prefer text, ask us and we'll arrange it where we can.

Will I have the same worker?

Yes, wherever we can. If a change is unavoidable, we'll let you know and introduce you to the new person where we can.

What about sensory stuff?

Tell us what works and what doesn't: lights, noise, touch, places. It goes in your file and workers are given it before they meet you.

I don't have a diagnosis yet. Can I still talk to you?

Yes. We can talk about what's going on and what the NDIS looks for, and tell you if a Local Area Coordinator is the better first call.

How we work

Lights, noise, touch, places. Tell us what works, and workers are given it before they meet you.
A quiet corner by a window with an armchair, headphones on a side table and a leafy street outside.
