You shouldn't have to hold all of this on your own.

For family, partners, friends and carers of an adult with disability. Here's what the NDIS can cover, what we take off your plate, and where you still fit in.

What the NDIS covers

If the person you care for has an NDIS plan, it can fund:

Support coordination. Someone whose job is to make the plan work, find the right services, and deal with the NDIS on their behalf.

Support work. Help at home, help getting out, help getting to appointments, help with daily living.

Other supports, depending on the plan.

It doesn't fund everything, and it doesn't fund things the health system or housing system should be doing. Part of our job is knowing where the lines are and who to push when something falls in the gap.

What we do

What we take off your plate

The phone calls

NDIS, Centrelink, housing, hospitals, corrections. We make them, we chase them, and we tell you what was said.

The paperwork

Plan reviews, evidence letters, service agreements, applications.

The coordination

When there's a psychiatrist, a housing worker, a GP and a lawyer all involved, someone has to keep them talking to each other. That's us.

The transitions

Discharge from hospital, a move, a plan review, release from custody. We start planning before it happens.

Being there

Someone to call when something's wrong, and a support worker who gets to know the person.

Where you still fit in

You know this person better than any service does. That doesn't change when we get involved.

You choose how much you want to be part of. Some families want a weekly call. Some want to step back for a while. Both are fine, and you can change your mind.

We'll ask the person we're supporting who they want involved and how. Where they say you, we'll keep you in the loop.

If you're the one who's been holding everything together, we'll help you put some of it down.

How to start

Call us. You don't need the person's permission to ask us questions, and you don't need their NDIS number to have a first conversation.

To actually start supports, the person we'd be supporting needs to agree, and they need an NDIS plan (or to be eligible for one). We'll walk you through both.

If the person can't make that decision themselves, a guardian or NDIS nominee with the authority to decide can agree on their behalf. If you're not sure whether that's you, ask us and we'll tell you plainly.

Questions

Things people ask us

Can I call before the person I care for agrees?

Yes. You can ask us anything without their permission. To start supports, they need to agree, or a guardian or nominee with the authority to decide does.

Do they need an NDIS plan first?

To start funded supports, yes, or to be eligible for one. We can help work out which, and what to do next.

Will you keep me in the loop?

We ask the person we support who they want involved. Where they say you, we keep you updated the way you want.

What if I need a break?

Tell us. Families step back and step in all the time. Nothing about their support stops because you do.

Who do I call if something goes wrong?

The same coordinator or worker wherever we can, on a direct number.
